6 Ways To Boost Your Self-Care Routines At Work

Self Care Routines At Work

Are you feeling a little uninspired or exhausted at work? Maybe you have some brain fog after burning the candle at both ends. What can help (apart from endless rest, exercise and green juices) is some useful, easy-to-implement self-care tips that you can try to introduce into your work routine. It is high time you dedicate more time to yourself and create healthy habits on the go? We’re here to help.

What is Self-care and Why is It So Important?

Taking good care of yourself (at work) is just as important as taking care of yourself in other areas of your life too. If you could raise a wand and magic up some more time to exercise, sleep, eat right and take proper breaks then maybe you would reduce your work stress and be at one with your inbox. However, that’s not the reality for many of us trying to hustle hard to meet the demands of business growth, clients, team, meetings, marketing and finances. Now you’ll be able to make a few small changes to your daily routine that could see big results for your overall self-care at work (both instant changes and long term changes).

How can I Practice Self-care at Work?

Firstly – make your needs a priority. It’s that simple. Here are some ways to practice self-care at work:

1/ Manage Your Time On Your Schedule

Stress is known to negatively impact both mental and physical health. One of the core drivers of increased stress levels is poor time management. Things like missing deadlines and procrastination can lead to immense stress and anxiety.
The best way to manage time at workplace is to make use of a reliable project management software solution. When you learn to manage time effectively, you will find more space in your work schedule for quality me-time.

If you have a work schedule that is outside of the “norm” or your working part time (and trying to work full time) then proper time management is going to save some brain cells in the long run.

You will understand which time frames work for you (for meetings, projects and campaigns), what is achievable and what needs some modifications. You’ll also feel more empowered to say “no, that doesn’t work for me” when you have clients or team members or bosses putting any unnecessary stress on you.

2/ Ensure Movement

Long periods of sitting, typing, screen watching are not beneficial to your overall health. However, this is a reality for most of us. So, it’s up to you to force some movement in your day. Whether you stand up for phone calls, take a stroll around the office (like our beautiful coworking spaces at JAGA) or pop out for a coffee with a colleague, you must incorporate some movement in your work routine. Not only will it help you burn calories and improve your overall mood, it will help you stay alert, aware and more positive during the work day.

3/ Take Proper Lunch Break

Who is guilty of scoffing a sandwich at your desk? We all are!
But taking a break from your computer during your lunch break is essential. Getting outside on a sunny day, sitting in the park, walking around the shops, lunch out with friends, even lunch at our group area kitchen at JAGA, any break away from the computer is a good one.

4/ Be Mindful Of What You Eat

Long, boozy lunch on a Friday? That’s a write-off for the rest of the day. There is a reason why employees are provided a proper lunch break, so they can take time, nourish themselves and fuel up for the next work period. If you’re attentive to what you’re consuming and how you’re eating, you’ll feel well fed, watered and energized for the next few hours. A well thought out meal with a balance of good fats, carbohydrates and protein will serve you a thousand times better than something out of vending machine. The food you eat at work has a huge impact on your self-care!

5/ Log-off Out of Social Media

Social media can be a major distraction. However, as boredom strikes and you reach for the scroll, put down the phone. Take this time to get up, walk around, get some fresh air and engage with a coworker. If you don’t need it for your work, while at work, you should consider logging off all social media platforms. You will be surprised to know about the amount of time you will save throughout the day.

6/ Enjoy Your Space

If you work from home, or hybrid work then you’ll know how a space can negatively or positively affect your work day. If you truly feel comfortable and happy where you work, you will be more productive and effective at work.
At JAGA we have two purpose built, amazing coworking spaces that cater for break out spaces, nooks, meeting rooms and offices as well as hot desks. However you wish to work and utilize your space we have you covered. We also have award-winning spaces where you can happily welcome clients, team members and friends for coffee or meetings to break up your work day.
If there are other ways you like to enhance your space, whether it’s with a special lamp, chair, rug, photos, oil burner, music – whatever it is that inspires you to work your best, do it!

A Note About Putting Yourself First

This can be a hard one, especially if you’re the boss, and especially if you have a supporting or nurturing nature but really self-care is about putting yourself first.

Self-care is also a great way to remind yourself that you are an individual before being an employee, a worker or a boss. When you incorporate a self-care routine into your day-to-day schedule at work, you can feel more satisfied and centered with your workday and really, in your life.

How Coworking Spaces Enable Positive Self-care Routines at Work?

Self-care has habitually been saved for after work hours. Therefore, it is no shock that traditional working spaces are not necessarily self-care friendly. However, coworking spaces are. It’s one of the many reasons we love and live our brand so hard.

Co-working spaces are transforming the future of how we work and instilling an era of self-care in many work scenarios.

Coworking spaces like JAGA offer members improved tools to ensure relevant self-care habits.

Most coworking spaces provide a stimulating atmosphere with the help of exceptional office space designs, colours and abundant natural light. The uniquely designed spaces also offer ample flexibility to members and encourage more connection and community.

What are you going to do today at work (maybe a little differently from your normal routine) that will encourage you to feel good?

The future starts right here, right now.

JAGA provides more than just physical office space; it offers a supportive environment where professionals can thrive, collaborate, and succeed in their endeavours. Whether you’re a freelancer, startup, or established company, JAGA Workspaces aims to be the partner of choice for all your workspace needs.
